Examining the relation between bilingualism and age of symptom onset in frontotemporal dementia

چکیده

Abstract Bilingualism is thought to confer advantages in executive functioning, thereby contributing cognitive reserve and a later age of dementia symptom onset. While the relation between bilingualism onset has been explored Alzheimer's dementia, there are few studies examining as contributor frontotemporal (FTD). In line with previous findings, we hypothesized that bilinguals behavioral variant FTD would be older at compared monolinguals, but no such effect found patients nonfluent/agrammatic primary progressive aphasia (PPA) or semantic PPA. Contrary our hypothesis, significant difference monolingual bilingual speakers within any variants, were notable differences on neuropsychological measures. Overall, results do not support protective FTD-spectrum disease U.S. based cohort.

Association between tau H2 haplotype and age at onset in frontotemporal dementia.

BACKGROUND The frontotemporal dementia (FTD) syndromes have been associated with the microtubule-associated tau protein since tau gene mutations have been demonstrated to be the cause of FTD and parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17. In cases of FTD without tau gene mutations, however, it is unclear whether genetic variability in the tau gene is associated with the development or modulation of F...
